At the beginning of 2022, Rockwater Village developers Lisa Ferrell and Jim Jackson were proud to coordinate with Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas to bring new, beautiful homes to the Baring Cross area.
After seeing the great, life-changing work that Habitat has done in the Porter Cove neighborhood and for the families that live there, Ferrell and Jackson partnered with Kelly Fleming and her team at Habitat by contributing multiple lots at below market value to Habitat to create homes for new homeowners in the Baring Cross neighborhood.
Kelly Fleming said, "Habitat of Central Arkansas is so grateful for the relationship with Lisa and Jim and Rockwater Village. Their generosity to Habitat has enabled us to build four new homes just north of Rockwater and six more are coming soon! As important, we appreciate their moral support and their cheerleading for us. Rockwater is a beautiful community and Habitat will always work to be a good neighbor."
Habitat worked with the architect Jess Peterson of Williams & Dean architects to ensure the construction of beautiful homes designed in the Rockwater style. Living in a beautiful home enhances quality of life while also creating equity in the home. You can see the beautiful home plans below.
Ferrell and Jackson's vision for Rockwater has always included a mix of different housing types and a commitment to affordable housing. The new Baring Cross homes help to fill that goal. In the long term, the development team hopes that intergenerational wealth and security will be generated through the transfer of these aesthetically pleasing Baring Cross homes adjacent to Rockwater and located near various amenities like Rockwater Marina and the Arkansas River Trail.
"The style of homes compliments Rockwater Village and will bring wonderful new homeowners to the Baring Cross neighborhood," said Ferrell. "We are so excited to be be able to contribute to the dream of home ownership to several families."
The recent partnership with Habitat for Humanity isn't the first time Ferrell and Jackson have joined forces to create high quality affordable housing in the Rockwater neighborhood. They helped write a grant in 2008 with the City of North Little Rock for Neighborhood Stabilization Program funding to build affordable housing in the Baring Cross neighborhood. Over 12 new homes were built on 8th, 9th, and Parker Streets.
Ferrell and Jackson both encourage other developers to prioritize affordable housing, adding, "Developments that offer a range of housing types, from single-family to multi-family to apartment living, better serve the needs of a connected society."
