Rockwater Village was designed to be more than just an ordinary neighborhood. The beauty of the homes, the neighborhood, and the location on the water are the first thing everyone sees, but there’s also more to Rockwater in the details. A few of the gems hidden in plain site can be found below. Details like these may require more planning and additional expense, but the extra effort is part of the unique difference that makes Rockwater more than a real estate development. We are truly a one-of-a-kind neighborhood.
Rockwater Village is on the site of the former Vestal Nursery famed for its roses which were sold all over the country. In the Gardens, we planted reminders of this history in the sidewalk. It creates a little treat for neighbors to walk along and find a reminder of past days right in front of their homes.
Vestal Nursery also produced the most beautiful catalogues to advertise their wares. The banners at Rockwater Village honor the history using images from those catalogues to brighten the neighborhood. The pages of these catalogues are true works of art and deserve to be showcased still.

If getting to live in Rockwater isn't lucky enough, a few shamrocks have been interspersed in the neighborhood to bring luck to those who live there. As the Irish poet W.B. Yeats said, "There are no strangers here only friends you haven't met yet."
Rockwater Marina is everyone's front porch at Rockwater. It is downtown North Little Rock/Little Rock's only full-service marina with fuel service, utilities, event space, pump out and more. The walkway at The Porches at Rockwater incorporates the river in its winding shape with the use of the same tile steppingstones used at Rockwater Marina. This walkway serves as a reminder that all of Rockwater Village connects to the river.
The circular shape of the firepit and the stones match the shape and masonry colors of the Vestal Chimney and its stone wall. The Vestal Chimney is the source of many of the colors at Rockwater--the colored concrete lanes echo the colors of this towering landmark of days gone by. As shown in the banner photo, the Vestal Chimney anchors Rockwater Boulevard and guides design decisions at Rockwater.
Rockwater Founder, Lisa Ferrell, choose London Cobblestone for the entry streets of the neighborhood in memory of her mother, Olive Ferrell, who was born and raised in London, England. Olive met her husband, an American B-17 pilot William "Bill" Ferrell at a Red Cross party in London. Olive and Bill loved London and would visit whenever they could.
Ivy also makes an appearance as another small tribute to Olive, who loved English Ivy and planted it wherever she lived. Other leaves of native Arkansas foliage can be found on the sidewalks of Rockwater. An evening stroll can turn into a search for these lagniappes in the concrete.
Native Arkansas wildlife have their tracks at Rockwater Village, too! If you look closely, you can find the tracks of geese, deer, blue jay, and a bobcat in the Gardens. Rockwater founder Jim Jackson is a Hope High Bobcat graduate, so this native Arkansas cat was had to make an appearance. All these wild animal tracks were the handiwork of the talented Noah Miriglia of Concrete Creations.
In naming the streets of Rockwater Village, the founders sought to honor and remember people they love. In doing so, they added meaning to things frequently taken for granted, such as home addresses. These architectural street signs also bring beauty featuring the Rockwater logo and a historic look. The meaning of Nanterre Street and Alconbury Street can be found on our website.
Rockwater Village homes are inspired and designed using classic Southern architecture and they deserve to be illuminated by architectural streetlights. While these streetlights are more expensive than the typical neighborhood streetlights, Rockwater is not your average neighborhood--its beauty, its location, and the community feel make it a truly special place to live with lovely lagniappes everywhere!
